Mobile Monitoring (AKA Sniffer Study)

These particulate matter (PM2.5) concentration maps are made from data collected by the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) instrumented "sniffer vehicle" traveling on public roads. These maps are instantaneous snapshots of what was happening at a particular location at one point in time, (not a 24-hour average, and not a 1-hour average). The contouring is projected using a "natural neighbor" program and is only a representation of different concentrations compared from one area to another. All data and results are preliminary.

Contours

The contours (colors) correspond to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) PM2.5 24-hour levels from the air quality index chart. If the 2-second measured concentrations remained for 24 hours, this would be the health risk category.

Please note: The most current map will be the first to display, and you will need to use the scroll bar to look through older maps. The different routes are not driven every day, so there will be some days that simply display a blank map space. Since these are fairly large files, it can take some time to load, so please be patient.
